Is your apartment also a mess?
Oh, hi friends!
After feeling especially scattered lately, I took a look around my apartment.
Ah. That’s why. You're living among monster piles of half-done projects.
Four scribbled notepads, to-do lists of all shapes and stripes, five half-read books of five different genres*, paychecks buried in a corner, that giant clothes mountain that somehow always self-generates.
Stuff, stuff, stuff everywhere.
If your outer world reflects your inner world, it's no wonder my brain was overstuffed.
Then I thought, “What do I use daily?” Those few things are now front and center. Everything else was filed, gathered to donate, or thrown away. I put old books on my stoop and they were scooped up by strangers within hours. My apartment feels streamlined—and honestly, my brain does, too.
So how’re your inner and outer worlds looking? Need a little scrubbing?
*What I’m reading now: Drive, The Money Book for the Young, Fabulous, and Broke, Patience, Finishing the Hat, Light the Dark. This is not an endorsement of reading more than one book at a time.
Why not try and be the best? Why not try and make the very very best thing you can?
I mean, why not? If I made chairs or tables, I would still want them to be the most perfect, most beautiful chairs you could find and the highest possible quality. Why wouldn’t we want to do that with songs? Songs are forever.
I like the way Brandon Flowers thinks. More from The Killers’ frontman on Creative Independent.
Derailed Late Night! A talk show set on the subway! As someone who always desperately wants to chat with strangers on the train, I found this extremely amusing. ~ 5 mins (h/t Alex Jeffries)
Thank you for reading.
