Happy second-best day of the year
Oh, hi friends!
When I worked in a newsroom, the Tuesday after Labor Day was a big deal. We always needed to have major stories ready to go. Everyone’s gonna be back at their desks! They need something to read! Traffic will be great!
Now I get it. Everyone presses reset. We're fresh. We're ready to go.
But instead of frantically searching for what’s new, ask yourself…what do I have right now?
What are you sitting on? What’s right in front of your eyes?
I’m talking about all the ideas you have but haven’t put into motion.
The stories you pitched that you never followed up on—or didn’t pitch anywhere else.
The opportunities that come across your desk, your inbox, your path, every single day.
These are all free. And they're there for the taking.
So look around and ask, what can I reach out and grab today?
"To some extent I happily don't know what I'm doing. I feel that it's an artist's responsibility to trust that."
Wise words from David Byrne. (h/t to the equally wise Cindy Koh.)
A New Favorite Spot in Carroll Gardens
I’m a sucker for an egg sandwich, and also for people who work incredibly hard. That’s why I loved writing this story about Sheila’s, a new all-day cafe in Brooklyn run by a husband-and-wife team. Read on for details about their 4 a.m. wake-ups and challenges of running a small business in the busiest borough in the world.
Thank you for reading.
Love, Kara
