Thank god we killed August
Oh, hi friends!
Alright. I know some of you like summer. It’s cool, I get it, I like ice cream and sunshine, too.
But August is so…so…August. Ugh. C'mon. You know it's true.
Now. NOW. We’ve got a fresh start, a long weekend, and I suspect everyone and everything will suddenly come to life again around September 5.
Meanwhile, enjoy this break (or not a break), log off (or on), write, create, make, snooze, dawdle, doggy-paddle, dream, run, read, or do whatever you like. We've got a new season to take on.
I could watch this Oprah clip 15 times a day and never tire of it. "The losses are there to wake you up." THANK YOU, O.

A Random Round-Up
This is the loveliest tiny house ever.
Frank Lloyd Wright had big plans for Ellis Island. Enjoyed this Allison McNearney piece!
Oh! And by the way! This past Tuesday my short play “Excuse Me, Mr. Brantley?” was performed in a staged reading called Cherry Picking Festival at Wild Project in the East Village. (The play's about a woman interviewing to be theater critic at the New York Times.) A good time was had by all, and thanks to everyone who came out to support and texted/emailed/Instagrammed me their well wishes. Y’all are my favorites.
And here are a bunch of recs gleaned from the last in-person Brass Ring Summit on Sunday...
Alison Peters recs this Mystery Show podcast investigating how tall is Jake Gyllenhaal?

Some chatter about Logan Paul, an extremely popular YouTuber. Six million people watch his vlog every day. His brother Jake Paul also has 10 million subscribers. For context, 12.1 million people watched the Game of Thrones finale.
The books Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng and Sing, Unburied, Sing by Jesmyn Ward come recommended by Sarah Begley.
Angelica Frey mentioned Company XIV, this cool dance circus fusion event coming to Bushwick this fall.
Speaking of Bushwick, brother Eric is obsessed with the tortillas at Tortilleria Mexicana Los Hermanos.
This guy makes all other marathoners look lazy. Or sane. You decide.
The Impact Theory podcast is one of my new favorites — this episode with David Goggins is incredible.
And Nina Strochlic is a HUGE fan of the comedy podcast My Dad Wrote a Porno, which is a son reading a dirty book penned by, yes, his father. She really wants you to know that she loves it so.
Hope these tide you over for the long weekend.
Thank you for reading.
Love, Kara
