Manifest Monday
Oh, hi friends!
Yesterday, I spent 27 blocks looking for something shiny.
Specifically, a coin. I’d take a dollar, or $20 too, but finding one of those seemed trickier, so: shiny.
This became a little game as I walked up 8th Avenue. How long would it take?
The answer was twelve blocks. Five shiny pennies scattered on top of one another next to a door. I left them, because I got what I wanted. I wanted to be reminded that we find the things we look for.
"More sincerely, Mr. Spacey explained that, for all of his adjustments and suggestions, the young actors would have to learn to trust their instincts. “It’s easy to get trapped in the idea that there’s a way that you have to do these things,” he said. “The only way to do them is the way you feel.”
Brimming with a familiar certainty, Mr. Spacey said that worrying too much about the expectations of an audience — whether an audition panel or paying customers — was the surest route to taking yourself out of a performance.
“The last thing you should be thinking about,” he said, “is what they’re going to think.”
I like when profiles go beyond the obvious, as this one does with Kevin Spacey's advice on life and art.
Broadway Baby
I've seen four shows in four days (Sunset Boulevard, Groundhog Day: The Musical, The Antipodes, and one-acts at Nylon Fusion Theatre), partly thanks to the handy site Broadway for Broke People, which has info on digital lotteries for Broadway shows. Enter the day of and win (the chance) to buy less-pricey tickets for that night.
Thank you for reading.
Love, Kara
