Tune-up Tuesday
Hi friends,
I don’t know anything about cars.
I don’t even know what a “tune-up” would involve.
Rotate tires? Change oil? Wash ’n’ wax?
But I’m stealing the word anyway.
For our creative purposes, a tune-up could be any number of small tweaks:
Sitting still for a short writing sprint.
Purging all those emails you’ll never open.
Getting on the floor for 10 push-ups.
Making a phone call to a friend.
Throwing away the 14 expired condiments in your fridge.
These things aren’t just maintenance.
They’re little improvements that keep you running smoothly.
So please, oh please, we beg, we pray, Go throw your TV set away, And in its place you can install A lovely bookshelf on the wall.
From Roald Dahl’s poem Television, which I’d never read before seeing it in this piece, 8 Ways to Read (a Lot) More Books This Year. I’m not advocating throwing away our TVs, but perhaps this explains how he wrote so much... (h/t Emily!)
Listened to this 18 times while writing before realizing that the artist Rostam used to be in Vampire Weekend. And he basically traces all my running routes in this video!
Thank you for reading.
Love, Kara
