When’s the last time you got a rude email?
Please don't take that tone with me.
Something your mom might have said. But now it’s something *I* might say.
Your tone can make friends or enemies. (Literally had an email exchange today with someone I was considering working with and his tone completely killed that idea. NO-GO, SIR.)
Tone can make the sale or alienate the customer. Just think back to the last rude cashier you encountered. Do you want to visit that store again?
Tone can make you sound like a jerk or like a sweet little angel.
Tone tells your story.
And now that we have to manage and mediate our tones across so many platforms, we must be very careful not to forget there’s a reader—like, a real live person—on the other end.
What will your tone say about you today?
"The most useful advice I have ever received as a writer: 'One, don't wait for inspiration, just start the damn thing. Two, once you begin, keep on until the end.'"
The late, great Roger Ebert was right. Sitting and plowing straight through a draft or project is exhilarating. Maybe it's because you can see freedom on the other side.
A Helpful Tool for Creeping
Did you know you can download photos from Instagram? Simply put the URL of whatever pic you want in the site Dinsta and it creates a .jpg. This has come in handy many times. (Not for creeping! Swear!!)
Thank you for reading.
