Today's Brass Ring Daily: On Sprinting and Necessary Tools
Run, Run, Run.
Last week I went to a conference for HR pros and recruiters. One of the panelists, who’s an engineer, said every few months his team has a “hack sprint.” They brainstorm strange, novel, maybe slightly insane ideas, then spend a dedicated amount of time to try them out.
So on the first day of a new month, what if you tried your own hack sprint? Your ideas don’t have to be weird. You don’t need a team. You just need to give yourself permission to sprint for a half-hour, a week, 30 days. Just sprint.
“Consciousness is like your tongue: It swirls around in the mouth looking for a cavity, and when it finds it, you focus on it. Imagine if your tongue went looking for a beautiful, healthy tooth.”
Look for the bad, find the bad. Look for the good, find the good. Insightful article with positive psychologist Martin Seligman on four short happiness workouts you should try. (Thanks Aegean for sending and reminding me to get to the dentist.)
Here are my best friends. (LOL.) Lately during interviews I’ve written in the Moleskine reporter notebook (top middle)—the binding is at the top, and since I’m left-handed I can actually write across the entire page. (Miracle!!!)
My current one is almost full so I went to buy a replacement; I found another brand that cost half as much, but then thought: why mess with what works? I will pay a few bucks more for familiarity and efficiency any day.
Thank you for reading.
