Wise words from a 101-year-old
The One-Minute Review
Before gallivanting into the weekend, I wonder if it’s worthwhile to do a little debrief of the past week. Let’s ask ourselves:
1. What moment made you happiest?
2. What task did you avoid doing?
3. What can you do by 5 p.m. today that’ll make Monday a little bit better?
So...more of #1, learn from #2, and hopefully never deal with #3 again because it'll be poof by 5:01 p.m.
“You just want to do the best you can do.”
Julia Hawkins is 101 years old. She recently started running and will race the 50- and 100-meter dash at the upcoming Senior Olympics. She is my new hero. (Note: My heroes are exclusively 80+ years old.)
The Round-Up
The New York Times is hiring a bunch of people for their digital transition team.
Gimlet Media is also looking for producer and editorial folks for their podcasts, including a new history, race, and culture show.
I’m loving The Create Daily, a newsletter and Twitter feed recommending one residency, award, or opportunity each day for creatives. (h/t Nina Semczuk)
Finally, in the Guardian, George Saunders perfectly describes the act of writing: “What does an artist do, mostly? She tweaks that which she’s already done.”
So let's go make some of that done.
Thank you for reading.
