Are you in love?
Playing the Forever Game
When something becomes a struggle, I ask one question: Do I love the process?
If the answer’s no, then bingo, bango, that’s the problem.
Because while finish lines sound appealing, you’ll never get there if you don’t enjoy the process. The training. The day in and day out.
Lately I wasn't loving freelancing. I wanted all the benefits but resisted the work.
Then I realized my process was skewed. I was a writer but rarely wrote. So instead of accepting that being a freelance writer means endless pitching, I simply decided to...write more. (Including what you're reading right now.)
Process is a shapeshifter.
Tweak it in small ways and you'll stop worrying so much about the outcome.
“Where I was, there was no risk. Inertia is a powerful force. As my wife says, ‘You getting sick was the best thing that could have happened to you.’”
I was inspired after profiling the founder of Lowercase, a snazzy eyewear company bringing manufacturing back to the U.S. (Now you can buy glasses actually made in Brooklyn!) More about his radical career change in my story at The Bridge.
Can you spare five minutes? Watch this. Promise it’s worth it.
Thank you for reading.
Love, Kara
