The secret to slaying the dragon
Hi Friend,
Someone asked me recently about how to manage monstrous, overwhelming projects at work or in life. My answer: I don’t know. Or rather, I don’t know what’s best for you. Discovering your previous methods is a good start. Are you a daily grinder or do you only sprint when you see the finish line? (I'm the latter.) I have friends who are pros at putting in effort every day—and they’re on their way to building great work. I also have friends who can stay up until 5 a.m. like maniacs for a week straight—and they also produce wonderful work. If you’re stuck, ask yourself: What succeeded in the past? Then try, replicate, try again.
We all have one person (or people) who we think will laugh at us and our stupid/small/trivial/childish work. Here’s a trick: Pretend they’re dead.
Now it doesn’t really matter what they think, does it? Ghosts can't laugh.
A Design Discipline
Every morning I check out the design blog Swissmiss and designer Van Schneider’s blog (thanks to Mindy for that rec). Design is writing-adjacent, and I’m curious about how absorbing tidbits of a different specialty will inform my work. Feel like deep-diving into another field? Pick one and lemme know how it goes.
Thank you for reading.
Love, Kara
