Life is a numbers game
Uno, Dos, Tres
My last math class was AP Calculus in high school (heeey, English major!), but I’m staggered by how often simple numbers come up in daily life. And how they tell the stone-cold truth about effort vs. results. Be honest. How many pitches did you send? How many recruiters have your resume? How many times did you swipe right? The more options you have, the more likely you are to find what you want. So maybe we shouldn’t stop short when One More could be The One.
“I tend to believe whatever you decide to look for you will find, whatever you beckon will eventually beckon you.”
This is from Amy Krouse Rosenthal, the author who wrote the beautiful Modern Love essay which I included in a newsletter last week. I’m sad to say that she died yesterday. Her NYT obituary shows she lived a full, creative, well-loved life.
When Documentary & Poetry Collide
I love this project so much. For two years, filmmaker Jennifer Crandall traveled around Whitman, Alabama and asked residents to read verses of Walt Whitman’s “Song of Myself.” Of course, she captured it all on film. (Here's the official site.) Watch the preview below and then start with Virginia Mae. They're worth it.
Thank you for reading.
