Let's Talk About Fear
Do you have it? I do.
Not taking action always comes down to fear, doesn’t it? But funny thing: fear comes with many faces. It can be masked by indifference (I don’t care, so I’m not going to try), blame (No one’s coming to me), bravado (I don’t need your help), or perfectionism (I have to get it right or there’s no point).
I actually used all those excuses today, when the reality was...I was just afraid of getting laughed at. Or ignored. Or failing.
And that’s fine.
I’m just glad to see fear for what it is.

This Good Dude Wants to Help Tell Your Family Stories
Michael Lowe and I might be twins? We both grew in Central California, majored in English at UCLA, interned at the same travel magazine, but never crossed paths. When he moved to New York, I was deep in the bowels of The Daily Beast and we met for coffee—he became a Cheat Sheet writer and we’ve stayed in touch ever since. I share this as a reminder to keep good people in your orbit, and also because Michael wants to use his incredible video skills with new collaborators. Here’s a note from him.
Hi everyone, my name is Michael. One of my favorite things is to listen to my grandparents tell stories, partly because I know someday those stories will disappear. But what if they didn't have to? Do you have any family stories you're looking to document? Maybe a parent's bizarre hobby? Or your family's unique account of coming to America? Or the story of how your grandparents met and fell in love? I'm interested in capturing some of these family stories and bringing them to life. Here's some of my writing and video work. Open to ideas—please reach out if you're interested! (West Coast preferred, but not necessary.) Get in touch at mlowe08@gmail.com.
Thank you for reading.
