It's March 1st. You can do anything.
March On
New months are the best. Really! Let us count the ways: You can set your agenda for the next four weeks. You can wipe the slate clean (because January and February are never highlight reels, right?). You can start a new 30-day project or goal (push-ups? pitching people? growing your Instagram? learning to cook something beyond rice?). You can do anything. So how are you spending the first day?
"Everyone's kinda looking for rules to follow. As soon as you realize there aren't any, the better art can be....You can do whatever you want. People don't know how free they are."
Comedian Jerrod Carmichael writes and stars in an NBC show, his second HBO stand-up special is out soon, he’s starred in a bunch of films, and he’s writing a memoir. He’s 29. I found his podcast interview with Tim Ferriss to be full of gems like this one. Listen here or on iTunes.
The Two-Minute Rule
I know this directly contradicts the “no rules” quote above, but that's about art, and this is about all the stuff that gets in the way of art. Basically, the rule goes, if something takes less than two minutes, do it now. In the moment. Two things happen: you realize how quickly you can complete trivial tasks, and your mind is free from clutter. Let me know if it works for you.
Thank you for reading.
