Yes, I have the napping gene
Oh, hi friends!
Interested in a change of location?
I’m not talking about hopping a flight — don’t do that — but a simple change in whatever room is holding you right now.
For instance, I was tired of sitting at my desk. (And I love a desk!) So I took my phone to the bed and after opening and closing Instagram four times, started typing on my phone. I’ve also managed to work in little spurts on the couch — a place I usually try to avoid while writing, since I have a strong napping gene passed down by my grandpa.
Other ideas for location changes: You could pull a chair up to a window or adjust the background on your computer. (My screensaver right now is landscapes and animal photos, no surprise there.) You could Zoom while sitting on the floor or chat while lying on your stomach. You could snap a photograph out of every window in your home and send them to a friend, then ask them to do the same.
We can find new perspectives — it only takes moving around a bit.
You water the oatmeal,
and eighty seconds under electromagnetic rays,
you watch it cook and form
into something nourishing,
if not tasty.
You pull the sweater,
green with a stretched out neck,
over your hair that hasn’t been washed
in three,
okay four, days.
You sit at the screen,
doesn’t matter which does it,
and look for words to say,
but finding few,
you look for words to read,
and the reports sting your nose
like a chemical whiff
inhaled by accident.
Then you try going from the inside out,
tap a message to a friend,
zoom over beers,
cheer from a fire escape.
Communion wrings out your fears
like a dirty dishrag,
until the water,
and you,
run clear.
Today is another day of nothing much,
yet also more than nothing.

Let’s See What's in the Basement
Patti LuPone broadcast from her basement on the livestream Rosie O’Donnell held a few weeks ago with Broadway stars — now she’s sharing videos of her wild underground cave on Twitter, and honestly, they’re worth the price of admission. If I can’t see her in Company again this month, I’ll take glimpses of pinball machines and her Norma Desmond-ing!

Thanks, as always, for reading.
