Where the days go, go, go
Oh, hi friends!
We spent a good chunk of time yesterday looking at Instagram accounts for zoos. (Santa Barbara’s, in particular, has very cute animals. Thanks Aegean for directing me there!)) I also read another handful of pages of My Brilliant Friend, that book everyone read so long ago they’re well into a television series (or so I hear). I had a collaborator phone call, a Zoom meeting about a possible gig, and pitched a couple of ideas to editors. We watched a very loud bird sing in a tall tree and heard people shouting praise from high-rises for hospital workers starting their evening shift. Everything felt amorphous and blurry, yet somehow typical.
I also had a glorious 15-minute cat nap while an actual cat stared at me.
This is what one day in one life can look like.
I imagine tomorrow will be different.
But they’ll both be full of small moments butting up against each other, giving you another chance, another day, anew.
“Nothing is silly or off-topic if it eases our anxieties.”
My friend Julie Bestry said this the other day — I couldn’t agree more. Be goofy, be wacky, let yourself wander. No judgment.
She also edited this new children’s book Captain Corona and the 19 Covid Warriors, written by psychologist Dr. Melissa Gratias. (Some of the warriors included are healthcare workers, first responders, teachers, food workers, and many more.) The book is available as a free download here.
Need a new song in your rotation?
Ethan Andersen and Kristoffer Bjarke, two friends from the BMI Musical Theatre Workshop, have been adapting the film Zombieland this year. A few months ago, they debuted this song, “I Miss People” which has, um, taken on new relevance. I loved it then and love it even more now that they’re sharing it with the masses.
Please enjoy!
