Let’s go beyond the to-do list
Oh, hi friends!
Yesterday I had a nice long list of things I’d like to accomplish.
I did…two things?
And those two things felt good, they felt like something.
But then I thought, what exists beyond my list?
So I wrote some lyrics, and shared them with a friend.
And that one thing felt good, that felt like something, too.
We don’t have to pen ourselves in with our ideas.
We can think beyond our borders.
Last week I had tickets to Young Jean Lee’s latest theater piece (billed as a non-musical, non-play, it was called We’re Gonna Die.) Of course, the show was canceled, but now she’s teaching a free playwriting course for everyone on Sunday! No experience necessary. More details here. (Thanks to Florencia for sending this!)
Many people have generously been sharing their skills and insights through Zoom, Instagram Live, and elsewhere. It can almost be overwhelming, this feeling that stuff is happening everywhere. We can’t do it all. My take is that if I wouldn’t normally pay for it, I’m not going to stress out about jumping on every opportunity.
There’s plenty of time.
We don’t have to become new people overnight.
We can just be ourselves.
Apparently, I Have a New Obsession
The Staten Island Zoo held a birthday party yesterday for a spider monkey. His name is Grandpa. He turned 48 years old. That’s him, top left. According to my internet sources, spider monkeys typically live between 20-27 years. Grandpa is a beacon of light and hope! I am now following him and all his animal friends on Instagram @statenislandzoo. (Thanks to Colin for sending this!)

Thanks, as always, for reading.
