How to stop reading the news every 5 minutes
Oh, hi friends!
We are infinitely adaptable.
Think of all the things you’ve had to do (and the decisions you’ve had to make) in the past week, some probably for the first time.
Cooking, cleaning, staying still, teaching homeschool, working remotely, co-habitating, navigating uncertainty. The list is long.
And still, despite the unfamiliarity, you’re doing all of it. In one week’s time.
We are infinitely adaptable.
“Think of it like social distancing for your brain. Just as in your physical space, you can be mindful of what you’re doing online in a way you never have before.”
I have an incredible urge to write right now (how can I be useful?!?!!?), so I wrote a new piece for Forge about how to stop scrolling coronavirus news (for at least a few minutes!).
Some advice: Log out of Twitter (you will probably log back in, but this at least creates a little barrier to entry), start a news schedule (deliberately check once or twice a day), and avoid being a messenger (try not to word-vomit the news to people before even saying hello).
I know we can all be prepared and informed without being completely overwhelmed by updates. It is possible.

You know who is allowed to roam free right now? PENGUINS. Yes. PENGUINS.
Since the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago was closed, staff let the penguins to wander around and check out their fellow animals…and reception. I LOVE THEM. Reminds me of this Modern Love episode on Amazon Prime (a nice feel-good series if you haven’t already seen it!).
Do you like these daily emails? Please share with a friend!
Thanks, as always, for reading.
