If it felt like nothing got done yesterday
Oh, hi friends!
You have a handful of projects. Every day, you add each of them to your to-do list/agenda.
And every night, no matter how much progress is made, you look at the list and think…well, I didn’t accomplish much in the grand scheme of things, did I?
Not when there’s so much else to do.
That’s what happens when you’re trying to juggle.
You’re looking at alllll the balls.
Sometimes, what each project needs is for you to put down all the others and just do one. (I’ve felt that way lately with building a website, rewriting an artistic statement, pitching a big idea. I need to accept these are 2-hour tasks, not 20-minute ones.)
It takes focus to ignore all other tasks, and trust to know that you’ll do them next. Because of course you will.
But just for now, pick one.
“She took flight. Her tail came out in his hand. With the help of unfamiliar air currents, she went up, up, up. She was gone.
This was not the first time she had been a wild bird in the city.”
This beautiful NYT essay titled “The Day Frankie Flew Away” is a miracle, both for the story it tells about the bond between humans and pets, and for its magical ending.
Funny Like a Meerkat
If you live in New York and are interested in learning how to write a book proposal, can I suggest you check out my friend Caitlin Kunkel’s upcoming nonfiction seminar on turning short pieces into a proposal? Caitlin is kind and hilarious and a wonderful teacher!
It’s a one-day affair. That day is March 21. More details here.
If you want even more fun/funny, check out the Satire & Humor Festival in March.
And if you’re not in NY, but want to know how to write funny/funnier, there are plenty of resources here, including recommended books, classic satire examples, and humor sites accepting submissions.
Give us something to laugh about, hmmm?

Thanks, as always, for reading.
