When things don’t go as planned
Oh, hi friends!
When things don’t go as planned, what do you do?
Maybe it’s a little thing, like oversleeping. You can rush to catch up and beat yourself up. Or take a breath and, like, get a glass of water.
Or maybe the week you had perfectly planned out in your bullet journal got derailed by a late night out or a new assignment. The first impulse could be, Whyyy is this happening to me?
I’m thinking about this a lot as most of my days now are self-created (and my deadlines self-imposed). When things don’t go exactly as planned, when I haven’t birthed an entirely new website from scratch or revised my play or fixed that song or pitched those articles or done my taxes, I always want to rush like a madwoman to finish something. Or instead hit a wall and beat myself up.
Of course that doesn't help. But here’s what does work, when I remember to do it:
Slowing down rather than speeding up.
Drinking a glass of water.
Asking, How could I make the best of this situation right now?
"Don’t be afraid to go out on a limb because that’s where the fruit is."

Have you ever been three inches away from a bald eagle??? Here’s your chance! Look at Shadow and Jackie on the Big Bear Bald Eagle Cam. (Thanks to fellow animal cam obsessive Julia Frey)
