Oh, hi friends!
How can you use your space?
On Tuesday, a friend held a reading of her play in my apartment. It was an early draft; they ate chili and talked characters.
On Wednesday, we held a reading of another’s friend TV pilot, also in my place. It was a pretty-much-finished draft; we ate pizza and talked comedy.
On Thursday, I worked from home and read a bunch of my own words aloud. I felt all that good creative energy; I was buoyed by witnessing progress and the generosity of the collaborators.
A domino effect of creativity.
How can you use the spaces in your life?
“There will be many times when we won't look good—to ourselves or anyone else. We need to stop demanding that we do. It is impossible to get better and look good at the same time.”
This is a quote from Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way that lyricist, librettist, and wonderful moderator Sara Wordsworth shared in our BMI workshop last year. It hit me like a sonic boom and I’ve been thinking about it ever since.
I wrote a new thing! As I incessantly chattered about on here and Instagram, from Thanksgiving to New Year I committed to running at least one mile a day. (Not me in the pic; she has better form than I do.)
It turned out to be a pivotal turning point in how I thought about running — and my productivity and creativity.
In my latest story for Forge, I make my case for streaking — and tell you how to start. (I maintained my mile-a-day every weekday in January!)
Let me know if you begin a streak of your own — I’d love to hear about it.

Thanks, as always, for reading.
