Hitting that sweet reset button
Oh, hi friends!
Sometimes you need a hard reset.
Maybe you’ve just accomplished a long-in-the-works goal, or are simply feeling a little off.
Maybe something set you in a bad mood or you just returned from vacation and need to reenter reality.
I love a hard reset because it gets me back on track and reminds me how much I LOVE being on the track.
A hard reset for me looks like this: a couple hours of scrolling through absolute garbage nonsense on my phone, culminating in watching
motivational YouTube videos (usually after some cat videos), staying up way too late, eating some sugar junk, neglecting a few priorities (cough this newsletter cough), and being a sloth.
This isn’t pretty.
Actually, this sounds like spiraling into an abyss?
But it’s not! Because you quickly realize: That was only fun for about 15 minutes. And you don’t actually want to do that every day, or even once a month. You go back to what works for you.
You realize that getting back into a groove is what sustains you.
Working toward something with purpose.
And it’s a good reminder to know you can hit the reset button at any time.
Maybe even today.
“I don’t negotiate my goals.”
Some phrases grab you and don’t let go. This was one of them, spoken by entrepreneur Jesse Itzler during a Gary Vaynerchuk interview. I was half-listening while puttering around the apartment but stopped when I heard this sentence. Then I thought about what not negotiating your goals looks like. I suppose it looks like drawing a hard line, not debating or bending, and not talking yourself into new goals. It looks like sticking to a plan. It looks like finishing.
I’m not going to say you have to watch the Savitsky cats, but if you’ve never seen cats jump through hoops or climb poles or do death-defying tricks, you might have to?! The antics start one minute in.
PS — Happy birthday to my baby brother Eric! He works harder and smarter than anyone I've ever met. His dreams are matched by his ambition and I can't wait to see what the next year holds. It's just gonna be so funny...you know?
Go give him a follow and a happy birthday on Instagram!
