Uh, would you ask your friends this question?

Oh, hi friends!
Given the amount of impostor syndrome floating around in the air — everyone’s got it, in some form or another! — I’ve been thinking lately about how our self-perception doesn’t always overlap with how other people see us.
That’s why I was inspired by this exercise shared by my friend (and fellow BMI lyricist!) Dorie Clark. She advises that you ask your friends or colleagues the following question:
What three words would you use to describe me?
As someone who a) doesn’t like asking for help and b) doesn’t want to be “a bother,” I was a little nervous to try this, but then sent the question to three people who I believe know me well from different parts of my life. Their answers were so helpful! They gave me clarity on how I put myself out in the world, and perhaps how other people might see me, too.
If you’re game, give it a try?!
“What I have discovered is this: You can’t do it alone. As you navigate through the rest of your life, be open to collaboration. Other people and other people’s ideas are often better than your own. Find a group of people who challenge and inspire you, spend a lot of time with them, and it will change your life.”
This is how Amy Poehler finds her best ideas.

If you need me, I’ll be hurtling toward deadlines with this In the Heights trailer on in the background on REPEAT FOREVER.
PS — In case you need more background tunes, here’s my latest song “What Are You Waiting For” written with composer Shoshana Shattenkirk on YouTube and Soundcloud!!!
