Your phone is gone

Oh, hi friends!
Yesterday I forgot my phone at home. I realized when I was standing on the subway platform. I did some quick calculations: Is there anything I crucially NEED it for today? (Coordinating with people, recording a song, etc.) Aside from my daily #lunchsalad Instagrams, I really couldn’t think of anything beyond my own comfort and obsession with being online. I had a paperback book to read on my commute, and was going straight to my musical theater workshop after work, which is a 5-minute walk away from my office. Plus, I’m at a computer all day. So. I got on the next train.
And lemme just say…you don’t realize how often you reach for something until it’s gone.
I’d estimate I instinctively looked for my phone around 30-40 times throughout the day?
And then, of course, when I got home…there were no emergencies. Just a handful of texts and a few Instagram DMs and…nothing else. The world kept spinning.
It made me think: What do you need?
And, more importantly, why do you need it?

Just gonna put this here as additional ammunition to make it happen. (Extra inspo: I’m seeing Stephen Adly Guirgis’s new play Halfway Bitches Go Straight to Heaven at the Atlantic Theater on Saturday night!)
Can you tie something to your New Year’s Eve? Go out with a bang?

Oh. OK. So. This is why the Internet exists? Here is a love song to love: “Dear Baby Yoda” based on Hamilton’s “Dear Theodosia.” I have died.

Thanks, as always, for reading.
