You’re not going to work today

Oh, hi friends!
Everything we do is a series of tiny, successive steps.
I’m not merely going to work. I have to shower, find clothes from the giant sweater pile in my room, grab my water bottle and keys, lock the door, walk down two flights of stairs, swipe through the subway turnstile, move to the end of the platform…alright, you get the idea.
The same thing is true for any project, too.
We can’t arrive at the end right away. First, we must gather our ideas from the giant idea pile, find collaborators, do a little brainstorming, have a meeting, open the document, write the kinda-crappy first sentence, and so on.
What if the same patterns we walk into, unthinking, every day, we could also apply to our new projects? What if we could make our projects as quick and effortless as the acts we’re already regularly committed to? You wake up, you’re locked in, you begin.
Maybe the more we practice, the more that will be true.
“Nothing will work unless you do.”
— Maya Angelou

Today’s fake-link is inherit. What are the traits and skills we inherit from the people before us? What are the stories? And more importantly, how will we protect them?
(I also coincidentally saw the new play The Inheritance this weekend — it’s nearly 7 hours of theaters stretched over two plays, a true immersive epic, and well worth your time if you have it to give!!)

Thanks, as always, for reading.
