Oh, hi friends!
Are you a confident person?
I don’t mean like you walk into a room and you can introduce yourself to anyone.
Or that you’re so confident in your actions that you believe whatever happens will work out for best.
But I’m curious about these moments of micro confidence, where once you decide, you decide.
Once you say it’s happening, it’s happening.
Everything’s a little all over the place this week. The reading for my new musical is tomorrow (!) and of course this is the week a long-delayed construction project decided to roar back to life in my apartment. Whine, whine, distraction, distraction.
So many things can jiggle our confidence, whether it’s a shift in routine or one energy-depleting conversation or reading a scene for the fourth time and thinking, “Mmm, no, absolutely not.”
One question I’m turning to is this:
What did I originally set out to do?
What was the intention?
It is very easy to be swayed — by distractions, by pauses, by the success of other people (TONY nominations came out yesterday!).
You can look around and think, “I don’t exactly feel confident.”
But all I can say is: You are.
I promise you are.
Because every moment of attention you give to your efforts adds up.
Drop by drop.
Attention and care create a slow IV drip of confidence.
Attention, care, repeat.
Wow, Kara! Think of all the decisions you made to get to "the reading" for your new musical, which is tomorrow!!!! Amazing! I'm sure there were bumps in the road, but you navigated them and went forward anyway. That's confidence. Confidence includes moving forward even when you're unsure, even when you're in doubt. And that's the best we can do. Nothing is guaranteed. But it's those tiny choices and decisions we make each day that count. And you get to decide what they are going to count for.
Congrats on getting to this juncture! Turn down all the other noise that isn't important.
I'm so excited to hear how your musical reading goes! What a special moment! Congratulations on this milestone, and all the ones that will follow. Hope you can take that TONY Awards Nominee energy into the room with you. ✨
